At the IFA 2024 consumer electronics show in Berlin, Germany, Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD's Compute and Graphics Business Unit, announced that the Krackan/Kraken Point APU products will become available in early 2025, as reported by the German media outlet, ComputerBase.

Compared to Strix Point, a mid-range to high-end APU based on the Zen 5 architecture that has already been announced, the Krackan processor is more cost-effective and aims to reduce the final price of processors by targeting the broader mid-range market.

As previously reported by IT Home, Krackan will utilize TSMC's 4nm process and will feature a total of eight Zen 5(c) CPU cores. It will be equipped with a smaller RDNA 3.5 architecture GPU but still deliver over 40 TOPS of NPU performance. Additionally, it will support LPDDR5-8000 and DDR5 memory and provide 16 PCIe lanes.

AMD noted that its failure to supply chips quickly and in sufficient quantities over the years has led partners to limit their AMD-based product portfolios. According to feedback from OEM interactions at the show, AMD's early announcement of the Krackan release timeline aims to instill confidence among its partners.
