Rumor has it that AMD is poised to unveil a new generation of RDNA 4 architecture GPUs, specifically the Navi 4x series of chips, at CES 2025 early next year. This lineup will forgo high-end models, focusing instead on two chips: Navi 48 and Navi 44, both featuring a novel ray-tracing hardware module design. Navi 48 is expected to debut first, with Navi 44 following a quarter later.

Recently, it was revealed that AMD has prepared three memory configurations for RDNA 4 architecture GPUs:

  • 256-bit, 20Gbps - 640GB/s memory bandwidth
  • 256-bit, 18Gbps - 576GB/s memory bandwidth
  • 192-bit, 19Gbps - 456GB/s memory bandwidth

According to Wccftech, these configurations are exclusive to the Navi 48 chip. Additionally, a lower-tier configuration is planned for the Navi 44 chip, featuring a 128-bit width at 18Gbps and a memory bandwidth of 288GB/s. Benchlife has additionally reported four distinct models of RDNA 4 architecture GPUs, codenamed R24D-E6 (Navi 48 XT), R24D-E8, R25D-P8, and R25D-P4. The first two are equipped with Navi 48 chips, while the latter two feature Navi 44 chips, all paired with GDDR6 memory.

The Navi 48 recently appeared in the Geekbench database, equipped with 28 WGPs and a reduced core frequency, indicative of its engineering sample status. Speculation suggests this GPU might actually be a mobile GPU tested on a desktop platform. The final version of Navi 48 is rumored to boast 32 WGPs, totaling 64 CUs, and a GPU chip area of 240mm².

Historically, RDNA 4 has been labeled as an enhanced iteration of RDNA 3, focusing on improved ray tracing capabilities, a transition to a 4nm process for better power efficiency, and maintaining lower prices for equivalent performance. The top-tier Navi 48 is anticipated to rival the performance of the Radeon RX 7900 XT, while Navi 44 aims to replace the Radeon RX 7600 series.
