AMD and Intel CPU Prices Surge as November Begins

As we enter November 2025, the global CPU market is experiencing a rare synchronized price increase. According to the latest data from ChannelGate, a channel monitoring website, prices for several Intel and AMD processors suddenly surged at the beginning of the month, with some models experiencing double-digit increases. This unexpected shift caught the DIY market and distribution channels off guard and has sparked renewed discussions on the changes in upstream supply and industry demand.

Reports indicate that mainstream processors from both Intel and AMD have collectively seen price hikes in a short time since last Friday. Notably, Intel's 12th, 13th, and 14th generation Core series experienced the most significant increases, with both bulk and boxed versions affected, averaging an overall increase of about 10%. Only the Core Ultra 200 series (codenamed Arrow Lake), which hasn’t been fully rolled out yet, remains unaffected. For AMD, the price rises involve the Ryzen 5000 and some models of the Ryzen 7000 series, particularly those based on the Zen 3 architecture, with prices for individual processors rising between $5 and $20. Concurrently, many resellers have either paused shipments or reduced inventory quotas, tightening market supply.

The reasons behind this fluctuation are not completely understood. Industry insiders speculate that the rapid growth of the artificial intelligence sector may have driven up the demand for high-performance computing cores, further straining foundry capacities. Additionally, some older architecture CPUs approaching the end of their life cycle have seen shipment declines, thereby increasing costs. ChannelGate’s analysis suggests that AMD's supply pressure largely emanates from upstream component shortages, while Intel’s price rise may relate to channel inventory adjustments and retail margin redistributions.

For consumers, the most immediate consequence is price volatility. Over the past week, retail prices for some mainstream models—like the Ryzen 5 5600X, Ryzen 7 5800X, Core i5-13600K, and i7-13700K—have risen by 8% to 12%. Interestingly, AMD's new Ryzen 9000 series and Intel’s Core Ultra 200 series were specifically excluded from these hikes. As both are new platforms that have just entered the market, vendors aim to keep their prices steady to maintain market interest. So, on the brink of Black Friday sales, these two new product lines have emerged as relatively stable options.

Market observers believe this round of price hikes will particularly impact mid- and low-end platforms. Consumers currently using AM4 or LGA1700 platforms who plan to upgrade before year-end may need to act quickly if targeting the Ryzen 5000 or Raptor Lake series to avoid further price increases. Conversely, those who have already transitioned to the AM5 or the upcoming LGA1851 platform might want to watch for discounts on the 9000 series or Core Ultra 200. Some retail channels are adopting strategies to clear stock by increasing prices for older models while maintaining prices for newer ones.

This recent fluctuation in CPU prices also highlights the structural transitions happening within the PC industry. The increasing demand for AI computing, server chips, and high-performance laptops is squeezing the supply of traditional desktop CPUs. In manufacturing, advanced packaging and foundry capacity are increasingly being allocated to high-margin products. Consequently, processors with older architectures and interface platforms are susceptible to cost fluctuations during inventory digestion, leading to unstable prices.

In the short term, the wave of CPU price increases observed in November is likely to persist for a few weeks until the Black Friday and Christmas promotional periods create a new price balance. Looking further ahead, prices for mid-range processors are expected to drop again in the first half of 2026 as Zen 6 and Arrow Lake architectures are progressively launched. However, with the supply chain not yet fully recovered, DIY users and system builders must contend with the new reality that price volatility is becoming the norm, while a stable supply of new platforms is becoming a scarce luxury.
