Recently, the latest benchmarks for Intel's Panther Lake integrated graphics featuring the new Xe3 architecture were unveiled online. Engineering sample results highlight the Intel Arc B390 integrated GPU, achieving an impressive score exceeding 7,000 points in the 3DMark Time Spy Graphics benchmark. This score not only surpasses current mainstream integrated graphics cards by a considerable margin but also brings Intel's integrated GPUs closer to the performance of entry-level discrete graphics cards for the first time.

Arc B390 iGPU Performance

Test results, as shared by tipster @OneRaichu, indicate that the Arc B390 boasts a Time Spy graphics score of approximately 7,000. This figure is nearly double compared to the Radeon 890M based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture. Previous data suggested the Arc B390's performance was on par with the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti mobile version; however, recent scores exceed those of the desktop GeForce RTX 3050, which is around 6,323 points. If future tests align with these results, the Panther Lake 12-core Xe3 iGPU will represent Intel's most powerful integrated graphics solution to date.

It's crucial to acknowledge that 3DMark performance varies with different GPU architectures, and Intel GPUs historically excel in benchmarks such as Time Spy. Consequently, high benchmark scores don't necessarily translate to equivalent gaming performance. Nonetheless, these preliminary scores underscore the architectural enhancements. Comparing to the Arc 140T on Arrow Lake-H, the B390's score has nearly doubled generationally from approximately 3,720 to around 7,000, which starkly contrasts the relatively moderate updates on the CPU side.

The leaked comparison charts position the Arc B390 in the Time Spy benchmark as follows:

  • Radeon 8060S: 10,924
  • Radeon 8050S: 9,278
  • Intel Arc B390: 7,000
  • GeForce RTX 3050: 6,323
  • Intel Arc 140T: 3,720
  • Radeon 890M: 3,374

While there's still a discrepancy between the Arc B390 and the higher-end Radeon 8050S/8060S, which are high TDP integrated graphics cards on the Strix Halo platform, they aren't directly comparable to Panther Lake. Within its own product category, the B390 stands competitively positioned.

Intel Xe3 Performance

Additionally, @OneRaichu suggested the Arc B390 could achieve about 6,000 points in the Steel Nomad Light test, a score approximately 90% higher than the Radeon 890M and 80% greater than the Arc 140T. These scores, derived from tests designed for extreme loads, further highlight the heavy optimization in execution units, texture throughput, cache linkage, and more, within the new Xe3 architecture.

As demand grows for handheld devices, slim notebooks, and efficient platforms, robust integrated graphics performance is increasingly crucial for platform competitiveness. The Panther Lake's capability to deliver synthetic performance akin to that of the RTX 3050, but at a lower platform cost, implies that future high-end handhelds or portables could achieve superior image quality and frame rate performance without the need for discrete graphics. Providing the price points remain favorable, it could become a more appealing choice for mass-market devices compared to premium Strix Halo-based platforms.

It is vital to acknowledge that all current insights arise from engineering samples and unverified leaks. With testing conditions and driver software still maturing, final performance outcomes remain uncertain. Once Panther Lake officially launches, real-world gaming performance, power consumption efficiency, frequency strategies, and memory bandwidth usage will ultimately determine the actual value of this Xe3 iGPU. However, preliminary indicators suggest that the new architecture is delivering significant advancements in integrated graphics, setting a new performance benchmark for next-generation lightweight and portable gaming devices.
