AMD Quietly Releases New Graphics Card Targeting Entry-Level Market

AMD recently introduced the Radeon PRO W7400, a new graphics card designed for entry-level workstations. Based on the RDNA 3 architecture, the card is tailored for environments where energy efficiency, compact form factor, and multi-screen support are essential.

The W7400 features 28 compute units, 1,792 stream processors, 28 ray acceleration units, and 56 AI acceleration units. It delivers a single precision floating point performance of 7.9 TFLOPS and a peak half-precision performance of 15.8 TFLOPS. It is equipped with 8GB of GDDR6 memory at 10.8 Gbps, operating on a 128-bit bus, which results in a bandwidth of 172.8 Gbps. This is a reduction in data throughput compared to the 16 Gbps configuration of the W7500.

Power efficiency is a major highlight of the W7400. The card operates at just 55W, approximately 15W less than the W7500, and can be powered directly via the PCIe x16 slot without additional power cables. Although it uses the PCIe 4.0 standard, only 8 lanes are active to meet the data bandwidth needs of typical professional tasks.

In terms of design, the W7400 boasts a single-slot form factor with a length of approximately 168 mm, making it nearly 5 cm shorter than the W7500. This compact size allows for installation in smaller chassis and high-density servers, enhancing installation flexibility. The combination of low power consumption and a small footprint minimizes heat and noise while freeing up space for other components.

The W7400 supports four mini-DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, enabling four 4K displays or two 8K displays simultaneously. It includes hardware acceleration for the latest AV1 codec, improving efficiency in video production and media streaming workflows.

This graphics card retains the full suite of AMD PRO Series features, including hardware ray tracing, AI acceleration, Infinity Cache, and driver support optimized for professional applications like CAD, 3D rendering, video editing, and graphic design. It also supports remote workstation capabilities and color management, offering stability and compatibility across diverse production environments.

Tailored not for intensive rendering but for users with a constrained budget seeking stability and efficiency, the W7400 shines in tasks such as engineering graphics, multi-screen data visualization, and light video editing. Its low power draw ensures stable long-term operation, making it suitable for workstations needing reliability during extensive usage.

The pricing and availability details for the W7400 have not yet been announced by AMD. The card is expected to debut in OEM workstations and branded PCs before hitting the retail channels. Its RDNA 3 architecture, 55W power draw, and compact design provide a balanced option in the entry-level professional graphics market, emphasizing cost-effectiveness along with strong performance.
