During AMD's recent Q3 FY2024 earnings briefing, CEO Lisa Su confirmed that AMD is gearing up to introduce the next-generation Radeon GPU family, built on the cutting-edge RDNA 4 graphics architecture.

It has been reported that the upcoming series of Radeon graphics cards is set to debut in early 2025, featuring two significant upgrades: enhanced ray tracing performance and innovative AI capabilities.

According to previous reports, the new lineup will likely be named the Radeon RX 8000 series, although the final name has yet to be confirmed.

"In the gaming graphics sector, revenue declined year-over-year as we prepare to transition to the next generation of Radeon GPUs based on the RDNA 4 architecture. With a notable boost in gaming performance, RDNA 4 significantly elevates ray tracing capabilities and introduces new AI features. We are on schedule to launch the first RDNA 4 GPUs in early 2025," said Su.

As we understand, currently only two chips are planned for the RDNA 4 series: a larger Navi 48 core and a smaller Navi 44 core, with potentially two models for each core variant.

However, there are some disappointments. Sources reveal that the RDNA 4 architecture is merely a refined version of RDNA 3, and does not include a top-tier flagship model.

It's well recognized that the AMD RDNA 3 GPU lineup did not meet market expectations and was unequivocally outperformed by NVIDIA's Ada architecture RTX 4000 series across all segments.

Optimism now hinges on RDNA 5 to redeem the situation. AMD's next-generation RDNA 5 GPUs are reportedly being developed from scratch in hopes of creating a transformative moment for the Radeon division, akin to the "Zen" shift.

NVIDIA's RTX 5000 series is also on the horizon, and as of now, there is no effective strategy on the part of AMD to counter it.

The hope is that RDNA 5 will mark a turning point for AMD; however, this breakthrough is not anticipated to materialize until late 2025 or 2026.
