AMD Breakthrough: Ryzen AI HX 370 Processor Benchmark Revealed with Aggressive Performance

kyojuro 2024/6/20

On June 3rd at COMPUTEX 2024, AMD unveiled the new Ryzen AI 300 series of mobile processors. This new line not only features an upgraded Zen 5 architecture but also integrates a new XDNA 2-based NPU, delivering up to double the AI performance. Additionally, the GPU has been enhanced with the upgraded RDNA 3.5 architecture, offering superior graphics performance.

The first batch includes two models, with the flagship being the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. This model boasts 12 cores and 24 threads, a maximum boost clock of 5.1GHz, an increased L3 cache of 24MB, and an NPU power of 50TOPS.

The new Radeon 890M integrated GPU has seen an increase in CU units from 12 to 16, featuring 1024 stream processors and a maximum frequency of 2900MHz. This enhancement is expected to excite many in the tech community.

Recently, Chinese manufacturer GPD listed a dual-screen laptop named "GPD DUO" on its official website, equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor. This listing also revealed the CPU performance and Radeon 890M integrated graphics scores for the first time.

According to data released by GPD, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 achieved a single-core score of 124 in Cinebench 2024, which is very close to the desktop-class Ryzen 9 7950X. Its multi-core score was 1525, surpassing the desktop Ryzen 9 5950X. Although the 5950X is an older processor based on the Zen 3 architecture, it still features 16 cores and 32 threads, making its current performance quite noteworthy.

It is worth mentioning that the previous generation 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 8845HS (55W) processor had a Cinebench 2024 single-core score of around 106 points and a multi-core score of 975 points. In comparison, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 shows a single-core improvement of about 17% and a multi-core improvement of 56%. This represents a significant performance boost.

Moving on to the Radeon 890M integrated GPU, it comes with LPDDR5x 7500MT/s onboard memory and achieved a 3D Mark Time Spy score of 4221. This performance surpasses the fully-powered RTX 2050 and is very close to the RTX 3050 Mobile. When compared to the Radeon 780M in the 72W version of the GPD WIN Max 2, the Radeon 890M is over 30% ahead.

Compared to the 54W version of the Radeon 780M, the Radeon 890M shows more than a 50% performance improvement, indicating a substantial upgrade. Of course, these are theoretical improvements, and actual gaming performance will need to be tested in specific titles. Based on past testing, older AAA games should run on medium settings, which is promising.

It is also important to note that the performance of integrated GPUs is significantly influenced by memory frequency. To achieve optimal performance, most manufacturers will likely consider higher-frequency LPDDR5x onboard memory in thin and light notebooks, although this means future upgrades will not be possible.

From the test results released so far, the new Ryzen AI HX 370 shows significant improvements in both CPU and GPU performance compared to the Ryzen 7000 series, with performance gains of over 50% in some areas. Shouting "AMD! Yes" is certainly warranted at this point, and related products are expected to hit the market later this year.

In addition to next-generation AI PCs, this processor could also make a significant impact on the handheld market, allowing recent AAA titles to run smoothly on portable devices. Additionally, the new XDNA 2 architecture NPU with 50TOPS of high computing power is expected to bring notable AI advancements.
