Intel has announced the launch of the Xeon W-3500 series and Xeon W-2500 series workstation processors. These processors are part of the Sapphire Rapids Refresh, based on the Golden Cove architecture core, manufactured with the Intel 7 process, and utilizing the EMIB package. They are directly compatible with W790 motherboards using the LGA 4677 socket. Compared to its predecessors, the top-end model now features an increased core count, from 56 to 60, although power consumption has seen a slight rise.

Intel notes that its architecture has consistently been the preferred choice for software developers, scientists, creatives, and engineers. Improvements to the platform continue to accelerate the ability to effect change globally. The Extended Computing Architecture of the Xeon W-3500 Series and Xeon W-2500 Series workstation processors meet the demanding computing needs of pioneers in various innovative industries.

The Xeon WX-3500 series boasts up to 60 cores with 120 threads, supports eight channels of DDR5-4800 memory up to 4TB, features ECC and RAS, and offers 112 PCIe 5.0 lanes. The Xeon WX-2500 series, positioned slightly lower, comes with up to 26 cores and 56 threads, supports up to four memory channels, and some models support DDR5-4400 with a maximum capacity of 2TB. The number of PCIe 5.0 lanes is reduced to 64. The official specifications differ slightly from early leaked parameters.

Though all models use the same architectural chips, not all server edition accelerators from the Sapphire Rapids lineup are available in these workstation processors. Specifically, they lack Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT), Intel Dynamic Load Balancer (DLB), and Memory Analytics Acceleration. However, they do feature a Data Streaming Accelerator (DSA) and two 512-bit Fusion Multiply and Add (AVX-512 FMA) units.
